ANSWERS:

1. HOW and WHEN can I TRY OUT the violins? For the location please look at  Answer 3 🙂 Call or sms me at +614 77885377 to arrange a time to come and visit at one of the following days and times: Monday to Saturday 1pm to 9pm.

You could come during my teaching schedule in one of the available lesson slots by clicking here“Where and When To Visit” or on the Menu tab of the same name above.

2. What are the AVAILABLE LESSON TIMES? Please click here: “Where and When To Visit” or on the Menu tab of the same name above.

TRIAL LESSONS: Please ask for a Trial lesson for $20 beforehand – I can supply a violin for the lesson if needed. Also, I sell all sizes of new violins which I personally select from the Sydney Violin Shops. I only select violins which are the best sounding so my students and others can sound their best too.

Please request a day and time in the comments below and you will be informed if or when the slot becomes available.

• ENQUIRIES to: Peter at strings2u2@gmail.com or sms 0477885377

3. WHERE AM I LOCATED? I am in Sydney at Chisholm Street Wolli Creek, next to Wolli Creek Station.

4. CAN I PAY ONLINE AND HAVE A VIOLIN SENT TO ME?

Yes! Tell me which violin you would like to purchase and I will send you a PAYPAL INVOICE which includes the cost of postage. Once payment is received in my paypal account, I will send a receipt to you and post the violin to you the next day. With payment through Paypal you have Buyers Protection which gives you a full refund of the price of the violin if it does not arrive or it is damaged in the post.

5. WHAT is a GOOD AGE to START learning the violin?

For children, I recommend any age starting from age 5 years. Movement to music classes can help prepare children from ages 3-4yrs. Parent need to help 5 year olds to practice daily to show good  progress.

For adults, it is never too late to begin to learn violin.  The most important key to success is motivation through listening to violin recordings, regular weekly lessons and practicing violin each day. I recommend 15 minutes a day for beginners. Even if you cannot practice till late at night, you can learn through the use of a violin mute which will soften the volume of the violin.

6. CAN I have a TRIAL LESSON first?

Yes you certainly can. I charge only $20 a lesson so you can come and try out with me for a one lesson, no obligation, friendly trial. I also recommend that you buy a beginner’s violin for $290 and try it out to see if you like it enough to come for lessons.

7. IS the PARENT involved?

Yes, for a child aged from 3-12 years, the parent/guardian is strongly encouraged to come for the lesson to take notes and observe. This is really beneficial so that the all important PRACTICE AT HOME can be capably supervised by someone. If you are keen and interested to learn the violin together with the child, I strongly encourage it. The only extra expense is the purchase of an adult size violin. Think of it as a free lesson for the parent/guardian.

8. DO I PAY WEEKLY, MONTHLY or EVERY THREE MONTHS?

WEEKLY PAYMENT: for those who do not have a regular fixed time;

MONTHLY PAYMENT: for those who have a weekly fixed time. Fees for four lessons are paid in advance on the last week of the previous month. When there is a 5th week in a month it is optional for those who want an extra lesson. Otherwise, if there is a 5th week in the month, there will be no lesson.

9. WHAT about HOLIDAYS and ADVANCED NOTICE?

When you pay the fees in advance on the last week of the previous month you need to tell me if you will be out of the country and we will adjust the fees for that month. For other reasons for absence such as birthday parties, exams, school events etc, I recommend a make-up lesson that week or the following week.

10. IS there a MAKE-UP (REPLACEMENT) LESSON when I miss a lesson?

Yes, we can try to find a different time or day in the same month for a make-up lesson. I will try to do a replacement lesson if your schedule and mine can manage it within the same month.

11. What happens if I take a month off for any reason?

I will reserve your time or you for a month. If it is longer than a month and the time is no  longer available we will find another time for your regular lesson.

12. CAN I PAY ON A LESSON by LESSON BASIS?

Yes, for those who cannot commit to a weekly lesson I can accept payment on a LESSON BY LESSON BASIS. However, a regular weekly time is not possible so you will need to arrange a new lesson time for each visit. You can do this by looking at this website under “When and Where to Visit” under the heading “Available Times” and sending me an sms to request that time/day.

The LESSON BY LESSON FEES are as follows:
LESSON BY LESSON BASIS 30 Minutes 45 Minutes 60 Minutes
WOLLI CREEK LESSON Level 1 $55 Level 2 $60 Level 3 $60 Level 4 $65 Level 1 $70 Level 2 $75 Level 3 $75 Level 4 $80 Level 1 $85 Level 2 $90 Level 3 $90 Level 4 $95

*REPLACEMENT LESSONS are given ONLY if you notify of absence 24 HOURS BEFORE your scheduled lesson.

*You are given a replacement makeup lesson within the SAME CALENDAR MONTH, not the next month.

*If you are AWAY for A MONTH: 1. you can keep your lesson time IF you pay 50% of your fee while you are away.

OR 2. you can forego your lesson time and take a new lesson time when you return (no enrolment fee is charged).

14. DO I NEED TO READ MUSIC?

Music reading is not a requirement of learning or playing. Many excellent violinists can play traditional music without reading music. I teach Music reading in a easy to learn way so it is understood to be an aid to playing and not a barrier to learning.

  1. Hi do you still have slots for weekend? I have no experience in and I do not own a violin too but I am really interested with it – I am looking for classes and I found this site.

Have you heard of synwin and musicessential? i have heard good feedback for both of them. I read from your post that adults age 13 and above suits 4/4 size – uuhh I am planning to buy one but I do not know which store to buy tho. Some of the blogs I read says that beginners should opt to the $100+ violins.

    • Hi Moshi, you can come for a trial lesson this Saturday 25/8 at either 12.30pm or 2.30pm. Please let me know through sms 96611413 whether you can come to one of these times. I will sms you the address and directions. I can supply a violin for the lesson and show you the beginner violins that I have for sale at $150. They are personally selected by me from the retail shops to ensure that you will receive a good sounding and properly set up violin to make learning much easier and more enjoyable. Best regards Peter

  2. Hi Peter,
My daughter is having summer holidays in December and January next year. Last 2 weeks she had Western Australia school Winter String Orchestra performance. She was playing under her primary school and also Applecross Senior High School String Orchestra group (which was accepted in the beginning of the year). Since we are going on holiday in Singapore for two months and we would like our daughter to have a violin teacher to guide her (including violin instrument too). In February next year, she’ll go for another audition again in order to get her into High School String Orchestra Group. I haven’t talk to both of her violin teachers regarding what are violin pieces that she need to practice. Just wondering how much do you charge the fees which including renting violin too. Because we are not bringing her violin back to Singapore.

    Thank you.
    regards,
    Carole
